Accessibility
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has a good number of stations that have been conceived and designed to facilitate the mobility of their clients. Moving stairways, lifts, ramps and special routes for the blind facilitate access to people with reduced mobility. Almost all the train carriages have been designed to be accessible to everybody and the automatic ticket machines even have special software for people with vision problems.
This high level of adaptation, which is currently available in over 80 percent of the metropolitan network stations, has ensured that the company has been distinguished with various prizes and that it has adhered to the European program of "Design for all". This has translated into the systematic adaptation of all newly constructed facilities and equipment and all that have had to be integrally remodelled. Equally, the rest of the stations are progressively being adapted, which is objective that is to be formalised within 2006.
